Hill’s Pet Nutrition was one of the pet food brands involved in the 2007 melamine recall and then again in 2014 due to possible salmonella contamination of some canned products.
First are chicken meal and fat, flaxseed and dried beet pulp. Next comes whole grain wheat, cracked pearled barley and sorghum – each offering some fiber but offering more empty calories than others.

Beet Pulp
Beet pulp is the fibrous residue left after extracting sugar from sugar beets, offering a safe source of fiber that’s low in sugar content and offers low digestive risk. Commonly found in horse feed, beet pulp can also be beneficial in providing dental and digestive support for horses that may experience sensitivities to feed products such as grain.
Beet pulp can either be fed dry, or it can be soaked in water before consumption to soften and facilitate its digestion. Just ensure it does not remain submerged for too long or it could spoil.
beet pulp should only be given in moderation as its energy source, since it does not contain sufficient amounts of protein or fats.
