Feeding Schedule
Most tropical fish require feedings at least once daily, although the frequency and amount of food may depend on species, diet and feeding requirements. Some need a variety of food for balanced nutrition while others may require specific proteins or vitamins. When feeding tropical fish it’s best to provide only enough food that they can consume within several minutes after each feeding – overfeeding can cause water quality issues as well as health concerns for them.
Use various commercially available fish foods, like flakes and pellets. These fish foods typically provide both plant- and animal-derived nutrition. Frozen food such as blood worms or brine shrimps may also make for good supplements to offer your fish.
Some tropical fish species, like bettas, require special food that meets their specific protein requirements in order to mimic their natural hunting behaviors and mimic hunting behaviors more successfully.
