Frontline Plus
Frontline Plus is a spot-on treatment designed to eliminate fleas, ticks (including those that transmit Lyme disease), chewing lice and sarcoptic mange in pets of 8 weeks of age or greater who weigh more than 5 pounds. It should be applied between the shoulder blades of cats or puppies over 8 weeks old and 5 pounds or greater. This product should not be applied directly on cats’ fur or skin as this could harm their wellbeing.
Frontline contains fipronil, a phenylpyrazole that works by interfering with an insect’s central nervous system. By blocking GABA receptors that mimic those found in humans and other mammals, fipronil prevents insects from controlling their excitability; leading to overexcitation that eventually causes death of their animal host.
(S)-Methoprene is another active ingredient that works to break the flea lifecycle by killing adult fleas while also preventing new infestations by eliminating existing eggs and larvae, and blocking immature fleas from maturing further. It is easily absorbed through skin pores into oil glands of dogs where it stays effective for at least 30 days.
K9 Advantix II
K9 Advantix II is a veterinarian-recommended monthly topical application to protect dogs against fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and biting flies.
