Feeding Stimulant
HONEY B HEALTHY is a Non-GMO emulsion specifically formulated to increase honey bee receptiveness to higher levels of proteins, vitamins, and essential oils present in their feed. This allows more of these components to reach the brood and prevents Varroa mite infestation.
Experimental and theoretical combined research indicates that honey bee glossa feeding behavior can be described as an equilibrium between visit time and nectar mass intake rate, where its glossal hairs flatten to reduce viscous drag during protraction but stand erect upon retraction in order to capture more food. Functional compensation by controlling dipping frequency allows the bees to satisfy both requirements simultaneously.
The EZ-Measure bottle features an easy to use spout that makes adding the correct amount of Brood Booster simple, without waste product or extra steps. Accurate measuring increases effectiveness while eliminating wasteful product. Use for sugar water syrup, drenches or patties or building up packages nucs or swarms; or as an alternative spray in lieu of smoke to calm honey bees and unite weak colonies.
Drench
Feeding stimulant composed of lemon grass and spearmint essential oils. Helps promote healthy, vigorous hives. Use as a drench during late winter, early spring and nectar shortage. Add it to sugar water feeds, patties or syrups. It can even be used to combine weak colonies or encourage queen introductions. Contains sucrose, water, lemongrass oil and spearmint oil.
The EZ-Measure bottle makes it easy to measure out just the right amount of HONEY B HEALTHY for your feeder. Produced at a modern food manufacturing laboratory that adheres to stringent cGMP guidelines, HONEY B HEALTHY is produced under FDA license for food manufacturing purposes.
Beekeepers typically administer one cup (8 oz) of this mix three to four times, every three or four days, to the brood area by spraying or drizzling it between frames of failing colonies. It can also be applied as a sugar water spray instead of smoke to help soothe bees when merging colonies together and mask pheromones associated with weak colonies.
Spray
Non-GMO emulsion made with lemongrass and spearmint essential oils, this non-GMO solution supports healthy and vigorous beehives by helping promote healthful colonies during late winter, early spring, fall, or when nectar supplies are deficient. Use as a spray or drench to calm bees or combine weak colonies; additionally add to sugar water feeders, patties or buildup mixes.
Kumar & Agrawal (2014) explored the effects of different artificial diet combinations on honey bee colonies. They fed six distinct diets to colonies during summer dearth periods and monitored colony performance. Of the six diets fed to colonies, Diet-3 (defatted soy flour, brewer’s yeast, parched gram, spirulina and skimmed milk powder with protein hydrolysate powder) proved superior for colony performance than its peers.
Use as a drench, spray or addition to feeding syrups to stimulate bees. Additionally, this non-GMO product is produced at an FDA licensed food facility following strict cGMP guidelines and can also help accelerate package building, nuc formation and swarm formation.
Storage
Sugar syrup can help prevent starvation during periods of low nectar availability; however, replacing honey with it should be avoided since this promotes robbing behavior and may expose weak colonies to stronger invaders.
Most beekeepers employ a 1:1 mixture of sugar and water in their feeders as an effective feeding stimulant during spring to encourage brood rearing, particularly useful in areas where weather delays nectar flows.
This recipe requires minimal ingredients and can be prepared quickly in about 10 minutes, making it the ideal way to help your bees build up winter stores quickly and reach an ideal winter weight of 120 pounds. Its purpose is similar to that used by Dadant & Sons when making their Winter Patties; those patties contain additional components such as AP23 Pollen Substitute and Honey-B Healthy, an aromatic feeding stimulant made up of essential oils that reduce mold in syrups, boost bee immune systems, mask pheromones when combining queens together, and repel varroa mites from being made.
