Since April, prices have risen by almost 15 percent. Currently, prices are at Rs 1,175 per quintal. But the volatility of the commodity has also been increasing.

Mustard seed cake

The present study investigated the effect of cold-pressed rapeseed cake on productive performance and milk composition of dairy cows. Specifically, it was evaluated whether cold-pressed rapeseed cake modifies the bacterial community of the rumen. Additionally, it was assessed whether cold-pressed rapeseed cakes affect the rumen in vitro fermentation process. Lastly, it was also investigated the sensory characteristics of the milk from these animals.

Eight Nordic Red dairy cows were used in the study. The average body weight was 25 kg and the milk yield averaged 585 kg. They were assigned to two diets. One of the diets was a control concentrate (CTR) and the other was a concentrate with a cold-pressed rapeseed cake (CPRC).

Feeding the CPRC diet significantly increased the relative abundance (RA) of Entodinium, Ophryoscolex, and undefined genera within subclass Trichostomatia. However, the ratio of C18:1n-9 to C17:0, and the ratio of C20:0 to C16:0 in the milk, were not affected.
