Liquid feed can be used to supplement your bees during times when nectar-secreting flowers are scarce. It also gives colonies a boost before winter sets in.
Bee colonies that are low on food reserves may benefit from a feeding of syrup made of granulated sugar dissolved in water, which can encourage brood rearing.
Pro-Sweet Liquid Feed for Bees
Pro-Sweet liquid bee feed is a convenient, lightweight syrup designed to stimulate your bees at any time of the year. Contains both binomial (bees treat this like nectar) and monomial sugars to promote weight gain in your bees.
Beekeepers are facing increasing winter losses and seeking ways to minimize them, replacing lost colonies with replacement bees in time for pollination work and honey production. Liquid bee feed may help expedite the establishment of replacement colonies.
There are a variety of liquid bee feeds on the market, such as sucrose syrup and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Unfortunately, HFCS is susceptible to fermentation and crystallizing at cold temperatures; plus it’s more difficult to obtain and store than sucrose syrup; thus those without access to HFCS should consider liquid sucrose instead.

Some essential oils (EOs) have long been recognized for their potential acaricidal effects against Varroa mites; however, most of these EOs have yet to be tested under beehive conditions.
To identify the most effective essential oils (EOs), 30 were tested for acaricidal efficacy in glass vials (Figure 1). Those that showed promise were then further evaluated using complete exposure assays with honey bees and mites simultaneously.
In a screening test, 11 essential oils showed greater than 70% acaricidal efficacy. These EOs were then further tested on Petri dishes using the full exposure assay and included MAN, TYM, WTYM, ORG, SAV, CIN, CB, PPM, CAT PEL LIT and THM as positive controls.
