Animal lovers frequently bring in animals for rehabilitation at Sommer’s house, and she discourages people from petting them, since these creatures will eventually be released back into nature after rehabilitation is completed.

Nut & Fruity

Birds require variety in their diets with nuts and fruit to stay healthy. Our high protein blend of sunflower hearts and other seeds attracts cardinals, chickadees, finches, grosbeaks, jays and woodpeckers among many others. For maximum digestion benefits it features raisins, sultanas, currants cherry flavoring and grit to help digest their food; adding dried apples pears or oranges will attract orioles or tanagers as well. All this goodness can be found exclusively at Sommer’s in Seville Ohio!

Sunflower & Millet

Sunflower seeds are the go-to favorite seed among backyard birds. This blend will attract cardinals, finches and other species with long bills that love to crack seeds open – it contains over 20% sunflowers as well as white millet, milo and wheat for added diversity.

Cheaper bird seed mixes typically contain higher concentrations of “filler” seeds such as cracked corn, red milo and wheat. Geis has demonstrated that American goldfinches prefer hulled sunflower seeds and niger seed over black oil and white proso millet, both common ingredients in bird feed.

Sunflower & Peanut

Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of Vitamin E, an important nutrient for heart health and reducing chronic disease risks. Plus they contain protein and fiber.

Though peanut butter typically contains more calories and carbs, both sunflower seed butters also provide an adequate source of protein per serving. When selecting natural versions without added sugar or salt, be mindful to look for natural peanut and sunflower seed butters with healthy amounts of protein in every serving.

People with peanut or tree nut allergies can safely enjoy sunflower seed butter, made of dry roasted sunflower seeds without peanuts. Red River Commodities and the ARS Southern Regional Research Center scientist Isabel Lima worked collaboratively on creating this spreadable peanut alternative.

Cherry & Cranberry

At first glance, cherries and avocados may look similar, but their nutrition profiles differ greatly. Cherries are delicious fruits that can be enjoyed raw or used in baking and cooking; their low calorie count and moderate fiber content make them great choices to reduce overall fat levels as well as lower risk related to high-fat diets. Furthermore, cherries contain many minerals which help mitigate risks related to an excessively fatty diet while simultaneously being packed full of essential minerals essential for overall wellbeing.

Cranberries are an iconic and festive ingredient associated with Thanksgiving meals and holiday beverages. As an excellent source of vitamins and nutrients – particularly vitamin C – as well as antioxidants which support immune health, cranberries have long been revered.

Sunflower & White Millet

Sunflower seeds were revealed as the top choice in a recent study on bird seed preferences, being easy for many species to eat while also less likely to attract squirrels than some other seeds.

White millet (or proso millet) is an especially delicious treat for ground-feeding birds such as sparrows, juncos, towhees, and quail. A tray or ground feeder filled with millet will attract these insects as well as others that prefer foraging on the ground like tufted titmice and chickadees.

This high-energy premium blend includes black oil sunflower, striped sunflower, sunflower chips, peanut hearts, cracked corn and white millet – perfect for feeding Dark-eyed Juncos, Eastern Towhees, Gray Catbirds & Sparrows as well as Tufted Titmouses!

Martig Farms Birds Luv’Em

Birds love sunflower seeds, and this mix offers plenty of them along with other delectable ingredients such as safflower seeds, red and white millet, peanut pieces and red sesame seeds to attract songbirds of all sorts to your feeders. This appetizing treat attracts songbirds of all sorts – guaranteeing an amazing show from them at feeding time!

Roger Martig would make repeated trips from his dairy farm in Beloit, Ohio to Geauga Feed to purchase bags of birdseed. After testing each blend to see which combination attracted birds best, he developed his ‘Birds Luv’Em’ brand of seed. Today he and his sons Earl, Sam, and Marvin continue the family business, milking 1,200 cows and farming hundreds of acres.
