Food with corn as its first ingredient and generic animal fat preserved with BHA and BHT, known carcinogens, as other ingredients are preserved with this food product.

Ingredients

Twin Pet products contain plant-based ingredients that may not provide as much nutrition for dogs as real meat would do, and use generic animal fat preserved with BHA and BHT, chemicals thought to cause carcinogenesis. Furthermore, salt is added – even though how much your pup consumes is unknown!

Ground corn is listed as the first ingredient, followed by wheat middlings which is an unnutritious byproduct of grain production with variable nutritional profiles. Overall, it does not make for an ideal meal replacement and it would be wiser to look for dry foods which contain meat as their first ingredient instead.

This food comes as both dry and wet dog food toppers. Simmons makes its wet food under private-label for several large retailers, featuring high protein levels with minimal carbohydrates compared to other brands, moderate moisture levels, brewers dried yeast, xanthan gum, natural flavorings, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, copper sulfate and choline chloride ingredients – plus its moderate moisture level makes this an excellent treat!

Grain content

Grain-in diets may incorporate various nutrient-dense grains, including wheat, barley, rice and oats. Whole kernel grains that include endosperm, bran and germ provide the greatest nutrition; providing fiber, B1 and magnesium while being low calorie options. Other nutrient dense options are quinoa and teff which contain iron as well as fiber for additional benefits.

France-based respondents were less likely than Germany-based ones to choose grain-free foods despite recommendations that people consume whole grains daily. Male respondents and those ranking ingredient lists lower were also less likely to choose such options.

Twin Pet boasts below-average protein and fat levels and above-average carbohydrates compared to typical dry dog food, using meat as its primary source of animal protein for maximum digestive support. As such, this food should only be given to dogs who possess healthy digestive systems.

Preservatives

Twin Pet dog food contains both natural and synthetic preservatives to keep fats from spoiling, extend shelf life and prolong its shelf life. While most preservatives are safe for consumption by dogs, some can be harmful. One such harmful preservative is TBHQ which has been known to cause liver enlargement among other health problems; other harmful preservatives such as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) could also pose threats.

Some pet foods contain high concentrations of salt and dyes that can be harmful to pets. You can easily avoid these toxic substances by reading the ingredient label; preservatives added by manufacturers must be listed, while any preservatives added before reaching factories don’t need to.

To avoid preservatives, choose food made from natural ingredients without grains. Also avoid foods containing added chemicals as these could potentially pose health hazards and should be avoided at all costs.

Price

Twin Pet is relatively expensive compared to other dog food brands due to Simmons, a large manufacturer that makes private label brands for many major retailers and wet foods sold under multiple brand names. However, investing in this brand of food may be worth your while if your large breed of pup requires extra calories.

Corn is the main component in this dog food, providing only modest energy. Wheat middlings are an affordable by-product of cereal grain processing; while they do contain some fibers for digestion purposes, their nutritional value to dogs is limited.

Twin Pet’s ingredients include ground yellow corn, soybean meal, beef meal, animal fat, high fructose corn syrup, ground wheat oat groats ground grain sorghum dried plain beet pulp chicken fat brown rice menhaden fish meal natural flavor propylene glycol salt calcium carbonate brewer’s yeast kelp potassium chloride dicalcium phosphate lecithin vitamins; all below average protein fat levels. Unfortunately Twin Pet has below-average protein and fat levels while above average carb levels indicating poor quality food.
