Crested and gargoyle geckos are frugivorous, meaning they eat both insects and fruit. To provide them with all of the nutrition they require, offer fruit as a special treat once every week.
Assure your cresties are getting adequate nutrition by gut loading their insects prior to feeding them – this increases hydration and nutritional intake.

Insects
Leopard geckos are insectivores, meaning that they must consume insects to survive. At least once every week they should receive live insects or powdered gecko food mixes such as Pangea Fig With Insects and Repashy Grubs N’ Fruit to provide optimal care.
Protein and calcium-rich food sources such as yogurt are great supplements to any leopard gecko diet, especially when combined with other items to provide variety and increase nutritional value.
These treats are packed with protein and carotenoids for added variety and provide a low-fat option to mealworms or BSFL. Plus, their long lifespan makes stockpiling them simple!
Ideal for crested geckos, day geckos and gargoyle geckos alike. Pangea Fig With Insects contains two times more insects to provide ample foraging opportunities in an enclosure or supplement any prepared diet with enrichment value and encourage foraging activity. Feed as directed; use with an abundance of water nearby so your crested can drink when thirsty.
Fruit
Horticulturists frequently recommend feeding your gecko a selection of fruits as part of its diet, offering different flavors that will keep its mealtimes interesting. But be wary: some fruits contain oxalic acid which can be toxic for reptiles as it prevents their bodies from absorbing calcium; therefore, certain fruit such as rhubarb, beets and citrus should be avoided to ensure maximum calcium absorption by your gecko.
Zilla’s Gecko Gold Diet was developed with the assistance of an animal nutritionist and has been carefully tested over generations of geckos to ensure it provides them with all of their needed nutrition. Formulated using natural fruits that geckos enjoy, as well as quality protein, balanced calcium levels, live probiotics and essential vitamins and minerals; its easy mixing design means no refrigeration necessary – suitable for crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, leachianus chahoua day geckos among others! This food should also be suitable for crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, gargoyle geckos, leachianus chahoua and day geckos.
MRPs
Crested geckos require a nutritionally complete food source and MRPs (Meal Replacement Powders) can provide it. Brands like Pangea, Black Panther Zoological, Repashy and Zoo Med have undergone years of crestie-specific testing in order to produce food with an ideal mix of fruits, vegetables and protein that provides proper balance among fruits, veggies and protein for crested geckos. Many keepers rotate among different brands of MRP to keep their lizard healthy and prevent metabolic issues.
MRPs should be mixed with water at a specific ratio to form a thick gel or smoothie for your pet, similar to milkshake. Once prepared, this must be refrigerated prior to feeding it to them.
Pangea Breeder Formula and Pangea Fruit Mix Complete with Insects are among the most widely available MRPs; both use banana as their main ingredient. However, some cresties don’t care for bananas which is why Fig with Insects was developed – providing picky cresties with another alternative! Exo Terra also offers gecko diet mixes, however these contain less-than-ideal ingredients with only 6-68% minimum crude protein levels as compared to 21-28% in top competitor brands.
Supplements
Leopard geckos in the wild feed on calcium by licking minerals and salts found in their environment, but doing this in captivity may result in uncontrollable buildup of calcium and vitamin D3. One way to combat this buildup is adding powdered supplements with their food to help mitigate this buildup.
Repti Calcium Plus or Zoomed’s SuperVite are ideal daily supplements, providing the optimal ratio of calcium to phosphorus while offering multivitamin support that promotes skin health, healthy shedding processes and vibrant colorations.
Supplements designed specifically for crested gecko species come in various mixtures that provide various vitamins and nutrients essential for their overall health. Most mixes can easily be mixed with water to form paste form that can then be put out in food dishes in their enclosure for your gecko’s consumption.
