Pomeranians burn energy quickly, so their diet must include plenty of high-quality proteins like chicken fat to replenish energy stores quickly. When choosing their kibble, be sure it’s grain free, extra tasty and contains beneficial animal-sourced fats such as chicken fat.
Add wet food in between mealtimes to help ensure that your pup receives all of the vitamins and minerals missing in highly processed kibble. This may help ensure their nutrition remains complete.

Meat
Pomeranians are at an increased risk for joint issues and patellar luxation, so their diet should include plenty of lean proteins like turkey, chicken, lamb and beef that is free of fat and seasonings – and never contain bones!
Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried raw patties offer an alternative for pet parents who don’t yet want to make the full switch to raw diets; they provide an adequate source of protein and calories without overloading their stomachs. You can find them both online and at many pet stores.
Vegetables
Add vegetables to your dog’s diet can provide essential vitamins and minerals that may support their wellbeing, yet must be introduced gradually and in small amounts; too many could lead to digestive issues and result in unpleasant gas.
Bell peppers can help prevent inflammation, increase immunity, and promote healthy skin and eyes. Plus, these veggies contain calcium, potassium, and vitamin C – making them essential foods.
Pomeranians require a balance of protein and fats for optimal health. When selecting their dog food, real meat should be listed as its first ingredient to provide their daily dose of essential proteins as well as omega fatty acids which promote skin and coat health.
Fruits
Pomeranians can enjoy eating fruits such as blackberries, bananas, strawberries, pineapple, and watermelons in moderation to limit excessive sugar intake.
Broccoli makes a nutritious treat for Pomeranians, as it contains vitamins C (to improve antioxidant status), K and fiber as well as folic acid and potassium – not to mention being low-calorie!
Legumes are an excellent source of protein and contain essential vitamins and minerals like A, C, B6, folate, iron, magnesium potassium zinc. Plus they’re packed full of complex carbs which release energy gradually while helping prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar. Your veterinarian can assist in designing an ideal diet plan to meet the specific needs of your Pomeranian.
Rice
Pomeranians require a diet rich in proteins and fatty acids in order to prevent bone fractures and joint issues, and be able to digest their food without experiencing gastrointestinal distress.
A high-quality kibble should be low in fillers, soy, corn, byproducts and generic meats; suitable for small breed dogs; sized accordingly and packed with vitamins and minerals.
Cooked rice can provide your dog with essential dietary fiber, and is easily digested. Be sure to select brown or white varieties over instant or parboiled varieties, which contain more starch that could increase their risk for diarrhea.
Pasta
Ideal feeding practices should involve providing your Pomeranian with high-quality dog food that’s easily digestible, contains no synthetic preservatives, artificial flavors or colors, and offers ample protein, niacin and healthy fats.
Carbs from plant sources contain fiber, prebiotics and antioxidants essential to your dog’s wellbeing. Although dogs tend to be carnivorous creatures, their diet should contain at least some vegetables for proper functioning.
Pomeranians can safely consume pasta as long as it is fully cooked without salt or sauces, along with lentils, green peas and black beans which contain plenty of iron and folate.
Honey
Your Pomeranian needs the appropriate food in order to maintain an ideal weight and prevent health problems from developing. Look for dog foods that feature meat as the main ingredient while limiting fillers and processed meats as much as possible, while providing adequate amounts of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids necessary for brain development, skin/coat health and heart function.
If your dog has difficulty gaining weight, try adding raw honey as part of its daily meal. Honey has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which could benefit them; just beware giving too much honey, which could cause dental issues.
