Crested Gecko Diet

Crested geckos, like other reptiles, require a nutritious diet in order to thrive. Unfortunately, many premade gel diets such as Hikari Crest Gel and Repashy Grubs N’ Fruit on the market contain too much sugar without providing adequate nourishment – leading to malnourishment, metabolic bone disease (MBD) and an accelerated decline in life expectancy.

An ideal food for crested geckos should contain lots of fruits (preferably organic), calcium and multivitamin supplements as well as natural flavorings that do not harm them. Sugars or artificial flavorings should also be excluded to protect their health.

Crestied geckos should be fed thrice weekly and once daily as adults; juveniles require feedings at once per day. When offering insects to your gecko, make sure that they are well nutritied with vitamin A and calcium as commercially raised ones may lack these vitamins; in addition they could contain parasites that harm your pet if fed incorrectly; please follow any product packaging directions when offering insects to your gecko.

Day Gecko Diet

Giant day geckos are insectivores and frugivores, providing them with both plant-based food sources as well as insects for protein intake. Brown crickets and dubia roaches should be offered twice each week; for added variety they also enjoy meal replacement powder (MRP).

Vegetables should be offered daily to your pet. A few good choices include escarole, endive, alfalfa and dandelion greens. In addition, calcium and vitamin D3 powder should be sprinkled onto each feeding for added benefit.

Supplements may be controversial among pet owners as wild geckos can manage without them. If you choose to provide your gecko with supplements, be sure they are of high-quality with low phosphorous levels.

Care should be taken when handling day geckos as they can become flighty and tear their skin easily. They often perceive humans as predators and may react by dropping their tails as an adaptation to avoid predation.

Gargoyle Gecko Diet

Gargoyle geckos are stunning day gecko species native to New Caledonia and make fascinating spectators. Living primarily in tree hollows and crepuscularly active (most active at dawn and dusk), they feed on both fruits and insects alike – as well as being capable of walking over smooth surfaces with their tails “firing off” when excited – creating quite the spectacle!

When caring for a gargoyle gecko, it’s essential to provide ample hiding spots and climbing opportunities. They are extremely social creatures who enjoy exchanging low growls, squeaks and barks with other lizards or humans alike.

Gargoyle geckos benefit from being fed pre-mixed food on most days in a small biodegradable gecko dish and supplementing this diet with reptile powdered vitamin and mineral mixes, in addition to occasional live feeder insect meals such as roaches, crickets or dubia roaches – these should all be gut loaded before offering and then sprayed daily with Zilla Cricket Drink or Repashy Bug Burger to boost vitamins, minerals and nutrients intake.

New Caledonian Gecko Diet

New Caledonian Giant Geckos are often considered the world’s largest geckos, reaching up to 36 cm in length. Their short bodies and blunt tails allow them to climb trees easily with their mottled light- and dark-grey skin that blends perfectly into tree barks; at nighttime they sleep in tree crevices or hollows during the daytime hours.

Wild giant geckos are omnivorous, feeding on both insects and forest fruits. Captive giant gecko diets should reflect this diet by offering Allen Repashy’s Giant Gecko Diet or providing pureed soft fruits (banana, papaya etc) mixed with multivitamin/mineral supplements as well as gutloaded crickets or dubia roaches dusted with calcium and phosphorus dustings for mimicking nature.

Diet is essential in maintaining overall wellness; ensure a varied selection of CGD is offered each week to your feeder insect(s). Mineral powder such as Arcadia CalciumPro Mg or Miner-All Outdoor can also help balance out calcium/phosphorus ratio.
