Insects

Leopard geckos are insectivores, meaning that insects make up the bulk of their diet. Additionally, insects provide essential nutrition not available through fruits and vegetables alone.

Leopard Geckos need live insects such as crickets or black soldier fly larvae for optimal feedings. You may also supplement this food source with frozen or canned food (never dried!) and fresh or cooked veggies that don’t contain acids, like cucumber.

Your Leopard Gecko’s diet should mirror its wild counterpart. Zoo Med’s Leopard Gecko Food provides an all-natural mix of flavoring agents and small laboratory-raised insects tailored specifically to meet its dietary needs.

Northampton Reptile Centre also carries Zoo Med Reptivite with D3 powder that will add nutrients-rich powders directly into their insect food to keep their reptile hydrated and ensure proper care of its environment.

Fruits

Leopard geckos are insectivores, meaning that they cannot consume fruits or vegetables due to the fact that their bodies do not possess the capacity for digesting cellulose found in plants. Furthermore, their jaws and teeth do not allow them to efficiently chew plant matter.

Although leopard geckos typically do not require fruits for nourishment, there are a few edible fruits which may be given. These include strawberries, apples, bananas, watermelons and oranges in moderation and should make up no more than 20% of their diet. They can be offered fresh, frozen or thawed depending on personal preference.

For optimal results with fruit and veggies for reptiles, it is advised that they be dusted with calcium and vitamin D powder specifically formulated for reptiles. This will ensure your gecko is receiving all of their necessary vitamins and minerals from each meal they consume. Furthermore, be sure to gut load insects prior to feeding them to your reptile; this will increase their nutritional value.

Vegetables

Leopard Geckos may enjoy fruits and vegetables as treats; however, too much exposure could pose health issues if fed too frequently. Instead, offer these foods sparingly as treats for their reptile.

Ensure the vegetables you offer to your Leopard Gecko have fully defrosted before giving them to him; hard or stale veggies could pose health hazards to his well-being.

Prepared vegetable mixes for reptiles can also be purchased easily from pet stores or online. Easy to prepare and containing all the nutrients your Leopard Gecko requires. If using prepared food, be sure to sprinkle some quality multivitamin powder over it; most modern supplements are very finely ground, making it easier for Leopard Geckos to consume them. When breeding females are involved, an additional calcium supplement might also be beneficial.

Supplements

Zoo Med’s Leopard Gecko Sampler can provide valuable variety to a leopard gecko’s diet and serves as an essential emergency solution. Packed with natural flavoring agents and laboratory-bred insects to meet his or her specific nutritional requirements.

Captivity also presents the challenge of providing your leopard gecko with multivitamins and minerals to supplement its food. As water-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin C or certain B Vitamin cannot be stored within their bodies, they must be regularly consumed through their food source.

Fluker’s formula for Leopard Gecko geckos is an advanced calcium-based multivitamin designed to support their vision. Including vitamin A acetate for vision enhancement and vitamin D3 to assist leopard gecko’s metabolization of calcium. Simply sprinkle lightly over feeder insects so all are coated; powdered supplements should never be left in your pet’s water as these may lead to oversupplementation and dehydration.
