Wayman was a Free Methodist minister and Oklahoma superintendent for 15 years before inventing automatic cow feeders. He calls himself a “gentleman farmer” and a member of the Alfalfa County Farm Bureau. He wanted to build a better system for his cows, and had researched the U.S. patent office for ideas that might work. Then, he started drawing up ideas and patented the system that now sells for a few hundred dollars.

Priefert’s Model HGFNB hay and grain feeder
A Priefert Model HGFNB Hay and Grain Feeder is a versatile dual-feed feeding system ideal for feeding cows a mixture of hay and grain. The unit’s durable construction uses 16 and 18-gauge galvanized steel for strength. The hoppers are secured with 2″ OD tubing or lumber and feature an Architectural Grade Powder Coat Finish with UV inhibitors.
The Model HGFNB has a powder-coated steel frame for stability and is easy to install. It features durable mounting brackets and can be installed on a 2-inch fence railing or on panels. It is ideal for feeding cows in the winter. In addition, it also comes with a storage compartment for hay and grain. When the weather turns bad, you can store the HGFNB in a barn or other secure location.
Lely Juno
The Lely Juno automatic cow feeder can make your life easier on your farm. The feeder continuously pushes feed up to the feeding fence, keeping it close to the cows and their easy reach. With a constant supply of feed, cow traffic is stimulated and forage intake increases. It also cuts waste feed and increases milk production. The continuous feed pusher automatically adjusts to the optimal distance and evenly distributes feed across the feeding fence.
The Juno can also follow the walls and fences on your farm, and has a metal guiding strip on the floor. It can be programmed to follow the path, even on slopes, and will help your farm run smoothly and profitably. The T4C management system lets you know exactly how much feed your cows are eating, and allows you to adjust the ration to meet your needs. With the optional Bluetooth connection, you can even open the electric doors on the machine.
Sydell’s Model 811 sectional feeder
A Sydell’s Model 811 sectionally-connected cow feeder has four panels with twelve openings for hornless goats, sheep, and small camelids. It’s made from solid 1/2-inch steel rods and is designed to sit 16 inches off the ground. It works equally well for horned cattle as it does for hornless cattle. Both of these models are designed for small animals, and a Sydell’s feeder will meet your needs.
The CM811 is made from rugged 16-gauge steel, and comes with the option of adding additional feed hoppers. The CM811’s Master Power Unit can drive up to four additional feed hoppers, which means the feeder can expand with future herd growth. The model’s easy-to-transport Tow Sled or Wheel Kit makes it easy to move to a different location. This is great if you’re rotating grazing schedules.
Hanen’s LSF-2
With two LSF-12 systems, you can feed up to 24 cows without the need for a separate human being. This is an affordable system that allows you to program the amount of grain and water you provide your cattle each day. And because it is solar powered, you’ll save on energy costs. If you’re considering getting one, you should know that it comes with a Frame Kit and Farm-rated Trailer Kit with wheels.
If you’re looking for an automated livestock feeding solution, the Hanen LSF-2 Automatic Programmable Livestock Feeder may be the perfect choice. Its multi-purpose capabilities mean that it can be used for beef and other livestock, including pigs, sheep, and horses. Even better, it can dispense grain up to six times a day! Plus, it’s fully programmable, meaning you can set the amount of feed your animals will receive on any day of the week. It also means you’ll save money on labor and feed waste. Lastly, the Hanen LSF-2 automatically dispenses the right amount of feed to your animals – and you’ll be able to enjoy more time doing the things you enjoy.
