This is especially true of cheaper “bargain” blends of bird feed. Such seeds often end up getting kicked to the ground by perching birds, or consumed by pests such as starlings and grackles who then consume it themselves.

Sunflower Blend

Sunflower seeds are one of the best choices to attract songbirds to your feeders. Unlike millet, sunflower seeds contain high amounts of fat that help birds remain warm in winter while also being an abundant source of protein – providing sustenance to many wild species of birds.

This mix contains Black Oil Sunflowers, Striped Sunflowers, Millet, #2 Split Peanuts and Nyjer (Thistle), all designed to attract Cardinals, Chickadees, Finches, Nuthatches Grosbeaks Grosbeaks Woodpeckers. Also included in this blend are Dried Cranberries as well as Natural Flavors for optimal bird attraction.

This blend is an ideal year-round choice to attract songbirds to your feeders, particularly during winter. By switching out millet for chopped tree nuts instead, No-Millet Plus helps avoid ground feeding birds which would otherwise be encouraged by its predecessor while still attracting House Sparrows, Juncos, Rufous-sided Towhees, American Goldfinches Grackles Pine Siskins. Furthermore it contains all of the same ingredients as Choice or Backyard Bounty but with more Black Oil Sunflower Seeds while less of other grains that might not be as popular – providing better results!

Cherry Blend

A winter mix formulated to attract cardinals, chickadees, juncos and Rufous-sided Towhees. Features thistle (commonly known as nyjer seed) along with black oil sunflower seeds and white millet. Also contains peanut splits, wheat, safflower seeds cherries flavoring. This variety will attract various songbirds!

Sunflower seeds make up the primary component of most high-quality bird seed mixes, thanks to their thin shells that allow seed-eating birds like grosbeaks, nuthatches, titmice, goldfinches, cardinals and woodpeckers to easily open them. They’re especially loved by grosbeaks.

Milo or sorghum is another commonly found filler seed found in cheap bird feed mixes, sometimes comprising up to three-quarters. While milo may attract the birds you desire in your yard, its widespread usage often leads to wasteful seed wasting that could occur with some cheap mixes; this one works particularly well when placed into hoppers or tubes with larger openings.

Sunflower/Milo Blend

Milo (aka sorghum), a distasteful filler often found in low-priced bird seed mixes, accounts for 40-50 percent of some inexpensive bird foods. Birds prefer not eating it and it often ends up as waste or even seeds that end up spreading across your lawn!

Avoid these unexpected costs by purchasing and sticking with a high-quality bird food mix that attracts a wide range of songbirds to your feeder station – this will allow them to keep coming without needing more cheap, subpar bird food products from stores.

This economy blend offers black oil sunflower seeds and white proso millet, both of which attract an array of bird species. Additionally, this mix features striped sunflower seeds which attract cardinals, jays, woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice; those hulled prevent house sparrows from devouring them! In addition, safflower seeds may help deter squirrels or grackles from overrun feeding stations.

Sunflower/Millet Blend

Sunflower seeds are a must for any bird seed mix. Their wide appeal includes drawing in large birds such as cardinals and jays as well as smaller species like nuthatches and chickadees. Black-oil sunflower seeds have thin shells that make cracking them open easier for most species while thicker-shelled stripes ones are often hard for birds to break open.

Millet is another basic seed that many wild birds enjoy feeding on. It’s often included in seed mixes to provide energy-packed protein and fat, plus calcium for young birds – specifically ground feeders like doves and quails!

Hulled peanut hearts provide an easy, non-messy alternative to sunflower shells that may clutter feeders. Furthermore, their higher fat and protein levels are essential to certain species of birds – specifically American goldfinches and pine siskins! Finally, adding nyjer attracts these birds further.
