Crested geckos require high amounts of proteins and fats; this formula was designed to fulfill this need.
It contains very low levels of Oxalates and Phytates compared to most gecko food items; additionally, unlike most mixes available to geckos this mix does not contain seeds, nuts, seed meal or cereal grains.
This mix is an ideal option for breeding crested geckos as it contains higher fat levels for egg production and provides a balanced calcium level.

Ingredients
PFM (formerly Watermeon Complete Diet) has quickly become one of the most sought-after crested gecko foods since 2013. Our expert veterinarians conducted years of tests on one of the world’s largest collections of New Caledonian geckos to find this delicious formula with ideal levels of calcium for breeding and healthy growth; additionally it features sweet flavors to attract picky geckos while being rich in essential vitamins and minerals.
Frugivorous geckos may become distressed from eating foods containing seeds, nuts, seed meal and cereal grains that contain high levels of oxalate containing fruits and vegetables that could potentially pose issues to their digestion. It also contains very low levels of antinutrients such as oxalic acid and phytate which could be detrimental.
Live dusted insects such as crickets, dubia roaches and mealworms make the ideal diet complement for egg laying females that require additional protein for egg production. You can also use this starter food for juveniles or adult males who do not require extra calcium in their diets.
Protein Sources
Insects (North American Farm-Raised Crickets & Black Soldier Fly Larvae) make up the bulk of this formula, providing both protein and fats crested geckos require. Their fruit blend has become a fan favorite among crested geckos of all species. Furthermore, this mix boasts very high levels of protein which supports egg production during breeding season.
Pangea’s complete gecko diets have also been designed to be low in oxalates and phytates, both known to bind calcium and other minerals and lead to poor egg quality, slow growth, weak bones and Floppy Tail Syndrome. Phytates also bind these antinutrients together and interfere with protein digestion – both factors being avoided through careful formulation by Pangea’s complete gecko diets.
Calcium content of this formula is close to maximum requirements for gecko diets, making it safe and sometimes necessary to provide additional plain pure calcium (without D3) if geckos begin becoming depleted of their supply.
Fat Content
Crested geckos in their wild environment are omnivorous, eating fruits, larvae and insects. A captive diet must provide these foods as well as providing an ideal ratio of Calcium-to-Phosphorus ratios and other essential vitamins and nutrients. This is usually accomplished by mixing in insect meal (dubia roaches and crickets are great) one or two times each week with high quality crested gecko diet powder approximately three to four times weekly for an adult and closer to daily for baby geckos.
Pangea’s Growth & Breeding Formula was specifically created to meet the unique nutritional requirements of reproductive crested geckos, providing extra protein while still offering an appealing flavor profile for geckos. Featuring delicious banana and apricot combinations that trigger feeding responses in many geckos, this mix has higher fat levels than our other mixes, and may be supplemented with live dusted insects to encourage geckos to hunt their food rather than simply consume it.
Calcium Levels
Crested geckos require a diet high in calcium to promote bone development and egg production. Unfortunately, certain foods like spinach contain high concentrations of oxalic acid and oxalates that impede calcium absorption by your crested gecko’s body, leading to deficiency that may result in health conditions like metabolic bone disorder as well as unviable, improperly calcified eggs during breeding.
Live food such as crickets or black soldier fly larvae is a fantastic source of protein for crested gecko pets, however if you don’t have enough space in your home to house these insects then freeze-dried insects and worms make an excellent alternative source of nutrition.
Pangea Gecko Diet Growth & Breeding Formula provides your crested gecko with the ideal calcium intake, delicious fruits that they love and increased fat levels that promote egg production during breeding season. Mix with 2.5 parts water to 1 part powder for best results and feed according to its life stage.
