Geckos require a large, vertical enclosure filled with dense foliage and thick branches. Sturdy plants such as dracaena, heart-leaf philodendron and money tree work well; avoid rhubarb as its high levels of oxalic acid could prove toxic for geckos.

Black Solider Fly Larvae

Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) are an increasingly popular feeder insect in the reptile community, serving to provide essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium. Furthermore, they’re highly palatable to most reptiles, amphibians, and birds alike – providing ample protein intake.

Homegrown BSFL can easily be grown at home using a simple compost bin, or you can purchase pre-made and freeze-dried versions that maintain nutritional value but won’t taste quite as fresh as live ones.

Although BSF have long been touted as an ideal food source for reptiles, research has demonstrated that they may lack essential vitamins and calcium. One study indicated leopard geckos (Eublepharis macularius) that ingested BSF without dusting or gut loading had poor vitamin A digestibility; when needle pierced or ground into paste with a mortar and pestle though, their vitamin A digestion improved considerably.

Crickets

Your crested gecko will love having crickets as part of its diet! Offer two crickets twice every week that do not exceed the size between their eyes; any uneaten insects should be removed after several hours.

Crested gecko diets in nature consist of insects and fruit, so it’s crucial that their captive counterparts receive both in equal measures. Provide high-quality crested gecko foods to your captive animals and introduce live prey items such as crickets, waxworms, earthworms, moths, fruit flies, grasshoppers, pinkie mice or infant rats every two to four days for optimal care.

Be sure to use Repashy Supercal NoD as a dusting for feeder insects. Be careful when handling Leachies as they can become quite territorial and lunge or bite at hands they feel are intruding on their enclosure or are stressed – thick pruning gloves or leather ones work best when handling this species of lizard, and only handle when calm.

Mealworms

Leachies are insectivores and frugivores; their natural diet consists of insects and fruit. When kept as pets in captivity, leachies do well on a high-quality crested gecko diet supplemented with live insects and fresh fruit from time to time. It is important that their food provides them with balanced nutrition; insects should no larger than the width of their eyes and should be dusted lightly with Repashy Supercal NoD multivitamin/calcium powder prior to being offered to their gecko friend!

Repashy Banana Cream Pie provides an ideal option beyond crickets, dubia roaches and mealworms for pet care, featuring vitamin-enriched gel, paste or smoothie that contains fruits, vegetables and crickets, worms and waxworms as sources of nutrition for your pet’s wellbeing. Furthermore, this formula also supplies vitamin D3 production when your pet basks in sunlight – something only naturally produced when basking.

Paper towel makes an excellent substrate choice for baby leachies as it holds humidity well while remaining easily cleanable, but subadults and adults should use something with more texture that can help retain moisture more effectively.

Fruit

Leachie Geckos require access to fresh, clean water in their environment at all times; be sure to change out their source daily and maintain high standards in maintaining clean conditions for their daily beverage needs.

These solitary reptiles are opportunistic feeders, feeding on both animal and plant matter. Their diet consists of both animal products as well as fruit-rich diet.

New Caledonian Giant Geckos are naturally aggressive lizards that may lunge or bite when handled, though if handled from early age onwards they become much docile and easier to handle.

Your lizard should receive food with high amounts of protein and calcium. Incorporating vitamin D3 supplementation may also be beneficial. HabiStat Crested Gecko Diet offers an ideal diet, without artificial colours or flavourings and boasting more than 20% fruit as well as 9 key protein sources – an excellent diet suitable for other omnivorous reptiles such as Rhacodactylus species, Anolis Skinks and Lacertids alike!
