An absence of appetite in geckos is often related to changes in environment or stress; such as moving house or excessive handling. A new enclosure, house move or lack of food intake can all have adverse impacts on appetite and feeding patterns in gecko pets.

Feeding

Repashy Grub Pie is a complete diet designed to replace live insects in the diets of both omnivorous and insectivorous reptiles and amphibians, including bearded dragons, skinks, dwarf monitors, day geckos (including leopard geckos, day geckos with fat tail geckos etc) as well as amphibians such as frogs and salamanders. It makes an excellent food source.

Repashy Grub Pie contains over 75% cold-pressed black soldier fly larvae meal (BSFL), which has an aroma and flavor that induces an instinctual feeding response in most insects-eating animals. Even species that require moving prey have been attracted irresistibly to Repashy Grub Pie from its first presentation!

Food grade gelatin can be consumed as a slurry, paste or gel form and used as an add-on for other food sources. Furthermore, its gel base makes administration of medications much simpler while serving as an excellent way to introduce beneficial bacteria that aid in digestion and absorption of supplements.

Preparation

Leopard geckos should ideally receive live insects (available from most pet stores) as the mainstay of their diet, though commercial diets such as Repashy Grub Pie can also serve as good supplements.

These foods are easy to find online and in most pet stores and will supply all of your gecko’s vitamins, minerals and proteins needs. Just ensure the pre-killed insects are fully gut loaded before being fed to it your gecko wet as their moisture provides important hydration benefits to its overall health.

A happy leopard gecko should never be handled more than necessary; use soft-tipped feeding tongs instead. They communicate through clicking, peeping, chirping, barking and rapid tail flicking to establish trust with their gecko companions.

Storage

Repashy Grub Pie can add variety and interest to insect-eating reptile meals by being fed as a paste, gel, gravy or topper on dry kibble diets – and may help improve digestion and nutritional absorption! It can even improve digestive processes!

Cold-pressed black soldier fly larvae meal has an aroma and flavor that provokes an almost instinctual feeding response in all kinds of reptiles, even species which require moving prey or are disinterested in freeze-dried insects or pellets on the market. Some individuals may need training or “teasing” the first time they encounter it to produce a feeding response and recognize it as food; once this has happened they generally become irresistibly attracted to this food source.

Pressed form of these ingredients also reduces their fat content by up to half without high temperatures and chemical exposure associated with other processing methods, and offers near perfect 2:1 calcium/phosphorous ratio. One ounce of Repashy Grub Pie contains over 1,000 BSFL; one kg provides 35,000, giving Repashy Grub Pie an unparalleled nutritional density compared to even 50,000 mealworms!

Safety

Leopard geckos are ground-dwelling lizards native to semiarid scrublands and dry rocky forests, and can live for 20+ years when kept as pets in captivity. Their care needs are easily met.

Reptiles should not be kept together as they thrive best when kept alone and may display territorial behavior. Housed together can result in fights that lead to dropped tails, severe bite wounds or even death of multiple males or females living together.

An essential element of a healthy habitat is providing ample hides and maintaining low humidity levels. A hygrometer should be used to accurately gauge enclosure humidity levels; 30-40% for main habitat areas and 70-80% in humid hides are optimal ranges for humidity measurements. When selecting substrate material for leopard geckos it must only contain fine or pre-washed dust free play sand; coarse grains are not recommended as substrate materials.
