No-Mess Plus Blend
Whether you are looking for a blend of nuts or other ingredients that will appeal to your birds, Wild Birds Unlimited is a great place to start. Their No-Mess Plus Blend consists of peanuts and other ingredients that you’ll love.
The WBU No-Mess seed blends feature seeds that have been removed from the shell, making them completely edible. These foods are great for birds that are fond of eating at the feeder. The company offers a hot-pepper treated No-Mess blend as well.
The No-Mess Plus Blend also includes Bark Butter Bits (R). These are small pieces of suet that are roasted peanuts, corn, and soy oil. The pieces are spreadable and bite sized.
You can purchase No-Mess Plus at Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shops. It is also available as a cylinder. You may also be interested in WBU’s “Nectar Defender,” an additive that keeps nectar fresh for two to three weeks.
No-Mess Plus is also available in a hopper feeder, which is a convenient way to provide a little food for your birds. They are available in several flavors including cranberries, cherries, and sunflower chips.
Choice Plus blend
Known as the no mess bird feeding expert, Wild Birds Unlimited (WBU) provides a wide variety of impressive no-mess foods. In addition to traditional bird seed, they offer a few great no-mess blends, including the No-Mess Plus Blend, the No-Mess NM CD and the Fiery Feast.
No-Mess No-Millet is an excellent warm weather seed blend. Instead of millet, it replaces it with chopped tree nuts. This no-mess blend is ideal for doves and other ground feeders.
No-Mess Plus Blend has added calcium for supplemental energy. This blend will also encourage fledgling birds to feed themselves, thus increasing the number of visits to your bird feeder.
Cracked Corn is another no-mess blend from WBU that is loved by Cardinals and Blue Jays. In addition to Cracked Corn, Wild Birds Unlimited offers a no-mess blend of sunflower hearts, which are made without shells.
WBU offers a Christmas Seed Blend, which contains almonds, cranberries, and suet nuggets. It’s also available for a limited time in the months leading up to Christmas.
Tree Nutty Plus
Using nuts in your bird feeder can be a wholesome and economical way to keep your feathered friends happy. Aside from the obvious birdseeds, you can also feed your feathered friends a nut-blend suet as a treat.
Choosing the best nut for the job depends on a few factors. You should also consider your climate, as nuts go rancid quickly in warm weather. You may also want to consider a more elegant solution such as planting a nut-bearing tree in the right location. Lastly, it might be a good idea to make a point of identifying and removing any birds that refuse to eat your nifty new feeder.
While it’s not as easy as it sounds to feed your feathered friends, the most enlightened among you should be able to devise a plan that will benefit all involved. Using a no mess feeder will help ensure that your feathered friends have a comfortable feeding space. Keeping your nut-bearing tree trimmed and watered will also provide some measure of protection from pests, as well as keep the birds from destroying your prized possessions.
Black Oil Sunflower
During winter, black oil sunflower is an important food source for wild birds. These seeds provide birds with extra energy to keep warm and stay healthy.
These seeds contain polyunsaturated fats, fiber and a variety of vitamins. They also are rich in minerals. They attract a wide variety of birds.
There are many varieties of sunflower seed. Some do not produce a lot of seeds. Others are not attractive to the birds that eat them. They can be purchased from a number of different bird stores.
A number of companies sell whole bags of nuts to feed animals. Some of them are used for nut-eating birds such as finches and cardinals.
Other ingredients found in many bird mixes include peanuts. This is not a good idea for local wild birds. They can get a very debilitating condition called “angel wing syndrome”.
Another common ingredient is hulled sunflower. This type of seed does not contain shell debris and does not create a mess under the feeder. It is also a cost-effective way to provide extra energy to birds.
