Most experienced owners feed their crabs a natural diet consisting of a variety of fruits and vegetables and fish or chicken. The reason for this is that crabs generally eat more when the food is not the same. Several online specialty stores sell a wide variety of hermit crab food, and some buy organic and repackaged products to save money and reduce potential waste. Fruits and vegetables
Crabs enjoy the taste of fresh fruit. Ideally, they are mushy or wrinkled. This way, the sugars and terpenoids change and make the fruit more nutritious. For this reason, it is best to leave peels on citrus fruits. They contain insect repellents called limonene, which breaks down fast and is highly appealing to crabs. Whole grain cereals, such as oatmeal, are also suitable for hermit crabs.
Hermit crabs are picky eaters, so it is important to feed them a wide variety of foods. Avoid giving them spicy or acidic foods. In addition, avoid salts and sugars. Providing bland foods is safe. Your crab will become accustomed to the occasional saltwater appearance, so be sure to provide at least two extra shells for each hermit crab.
