Leopard gecko liquid food is a nutritional support option for sick, underweight, or picky geckos. It can help with recovery, but it should be used under a vet’s guidance and not as a long-term replacement for insects.
What “liquid” or critical-care food is
Liquid foods for reptiles are blended formulas that can be licked from a spoon or given by syringe. Some are sold for leopard geckos specifically, like Hikari LeopaGel, while others are veterinary recovery foods. They are meant to deliver calories and nutrients to an animal that cannot or will not eat insects.
When a vet may suggest it
- After surgery or a long illness
- When a gecko has lost significant weight, especially from the tail
- If a gecko will not hunt due to stress, a recent move, or mouth injury
- During cold spells or poor husbandry, once the enclosure issue is corrected
If your gecko refuses food for more than a week, or shows a thin tail, sunken eyes, or weakness, call an exotics vet first. Force-feeding the wrong way can cause choking or aspiration.
How to offer it
- Follow the product directions for mixing and storage.
- Warm the food to room temperature, never hot.
- Offer a tiny drop on the tip of a spoon or syringe near the gecko’s lips and let it lick voluntarily.
- Do not squirt it forcefully into the mouth.
- Discard leftovers after a few hours.
Do not skip the basics
A gecko that is not eating is often reacting to temperature, hiding spots, or stress. Make sure the warm side is between 88 and 92 degrees Fahrenheit, the cool side is in the upper 70s, and there is a humid hide for shedding. Get these right alongside any feeding support.
Back to a normal diet
